Looking for ideas to keep your youngest Halloween party guests entertained? Here are a few games and activities for school or home celebrations:

Skeleton Scavenger Hunt {Family Fun Magazine}

What You Need

Large cardboard or plastic skeleton decoration
Long sheet of paper
Marker
Tacks or tape

Instructions

Trace a large cardboard or plastic skeleton decoration on a long sheet of paper. (Use a skeleton with movable limbs like the one shown here.)
Next, carefully take the skeleton apart at its joints and hide the parts around your house or yard.
During the party, ask the kids to "unearth" the bones and reassemble the skeleton by tacking or taping the parts onto the outline. When the skinny spook has been re-created, celebrate by giving each player a small prize.

Halloween Tossing Game {Better Homes & Gardens}

Download and print the Better Homes and Gardens patterns (found here), a sign for the Can Toss game and one to wrap each can. Measure around the cans and cut printed papers to wrap around them; secure with glue. Arrange the cans on a tiered shelf with designated points. Provide the kids with table tennis balls to toss into the cans.

Pumpkins cut out of construction paper

Eyes, noses, mouths and teeth cut outs (or markers for the kids to draw the features)

Dice (I'd love to find a huge die to use for little kid's kindergarten party but a small set will work just fine.)

Instructions

Roll the die and let the kids create their crazy pumpkin!

Easiest Pork Tenderloin recipe

The busiest time of year is among us so I'm here to share a scrumptious easy weeknight dinner :: Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker.

Ingredients

1 (2 lb) pork tenderloin

1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix

1 cup water

3/4 cup red wine

3 tablespoons minced garlic

3 tablespoons soy sauce

freshly ground black pepper to taste

Directions

Place pork tenderloin in a slow cooker with the contents of the soup packet. Pour water, wine, and soy sauce over the top, turning the pork to coat. Carefully spread garlic over the pork, leaving as much on top of the roast during cooking as possible. Sprinkle with pepper, cover, and cook on low setting for 4 hours. Serve with cooking liquid on the side as au jus.

It was delicious and moist and so very easy!

At Back-to-School night yesterday, I signed up to help with little kid's Kindergarten Halloween party. There are both peanut and gluten allergies in his class so I've been all over Pinterest looking for inspiration. So far, I've found a few great ideas!

Skull Lollipops -

Leave it to Martha to come up with this adorable party favor idea. And my google research says that marshmallows are gluten free. SCORE!

Pumpkin Veggie Tray -

I love this idea but I'm not sure it'll fly in a class of 5- and 6-year-olds. However, it does fit the "gluten free" and "peanut free" bill and it's healthy to boot.

Fruit Bat Kebabs -

Supplies: fruit (green grapes, strawberries, pineapple, etc.), skewers, plastic bat rings, hot glue gun and scissors.

Simply cut the ring part off of the bat rings. Trim the skewers shorter if needed. Hot glue the bat to the top of the skewer. Slide the fruit onto the skewer. Trim the pointy end off the skewer if desired.

While thumbing through a recent issue of Traditional Home, I found the above inspiration for our bare dining room walls. The room desperately needed color and I didn't want to break the bank. With the help of Adobe Illustrator, IKEA and 3M Command Strips, I created the artwork for less than $100.

I love that as you walk up front walk of our traditional home, you see a modern pop of color through the front window.

Savannah

Our recent real estate transaction went south last week and I had the perfect "pick me up" - a weekend in Savannah for a family wedding. My mom, sister, grandmother and I rented an apartment on Jones Street right next door to the famous Mrs. Wilkes' Boarding House. We had read reviews about paranormal activity in the apartment but thankfully we had a pleasant, ghost-free weekend. And I realized that although I spent a lot of time in Savannah in college, I had never gone beyond River Street to see the real beauty of the city.

The shopping was amazing. My favorite store, One Fish Two Fish, was just doors down from our apartment. They had beautiful artwork by Bellamy Murphy. Once we find a house, I want this Oyster picture...

Next to One Fish Two Fish, is my all time favorite lighting store, Circa Lighting. I've been coveting the Bryant Chandelier for years and it was so great to browse their entire collection.

And no weekend in Southeast Georgia would be complete without a trip to my alma mater in Statesboro. My sister and I drove to Georgia Southern for lunch a Snookies and a stop at the ADPi house. What fun!

It was a quick weekend but a 5-hour flight with no kids is not so bad! And I hope to return to Savannah again soon.

On the move....

We're moving! Only 5 blocks away but we'll have more space and I get to decorate. Hip hip hooray!

The boys are less than thrilled about the move. They're losing a playroom (until we finish the basement) and they'll be farther from the park. They clearly don't understand my need for a master bath and a walk-in closet.

In an attempt to make the transition go smoothly, I plan to have their room decorated before we move in. Below is the idea board I've put together. I plan to accessorize with maps, an antique globe and airplanes hanging from the ceiling. We already own the Taylor Cargo Quilt pictured below (minus the batman shams) and monogramed chambray shams. I plan to put the madras quilts folded at the end of the bed.

Are the kids at each other's throats?

Here are a few tips from the folks at Love & Logic to help with the madness:

Whether we do extra things for kids who are battling with each other.

It's perfectly reasonable for a parent to say, "This is such a bummer. I'm tired-out from listening to you arguing with each other. I don't have the energy to drive you to your friends' houses."

Whether we allow certain items to remain in our homes.

A friend of ours said to her kids, "This is so sad. Every time you guys play with that game you get in a fight. I gave it away so it wouldn't be a problem anymore."

Whether we allow their fighting to interrupt our responsibilities and time.

Have you ever noticed how kids tend to argue and bicker with each other when you are trying to do something that requires your complete attention such as trying to talk on the phone? If you feel secure that your kids won’t harm each other, it's probably best to say, "This is really draining my energy. You guys need to work this out or go your separate ways."

Whether we give them "bonding opportunities."

When your kids start to battle with each other, experiment with saying, "Sounds like you guys need some bonding time." Then assign them some chores to give them an opportunity to feel the love.

Relaxing at the beach

We spent Labor Day weekend at Seabrook. As I always say after a vacation on the coast, it is relaxing....so relaxing. This time was extra special because my in-laws tagged along and one of big kid's friends from school was staying in a house down the street. My mother-in-law and I bonded over a 1000 piece puzzle and the boys were content riding their bikes around town.

School started today (do I hear a hip hip hooray?). The kids were excited to be back and I'm thrilled to be back in the routine.

The boys in blue

The Blue Angels are in town and I get chills every time they fly overhead. Last year, we had the opportunity to watch their show from the Seattle Tennis Club. With cocktails in hand, we watched as the jets flew just feet above us. It was amazing!

This year, I took three little boys to a park to watch practice. Not quite as swanky as last year but the Blue Angels never fail to impress!

A couple of weeks ago, we hosted our Supper Club for a North Caroline BBQ party. Eastern NC BBQ was shipped in from my husband's hometown of Kinston. We provided the BBQ, cole slaw, Shrimp Shooters, Crudite and "Upsy-Daisy lemonade" and our guests brought side dishes to share.

Tonight, we are hosting new kindergarten friends for dinner. It'll be one of those dinners where the kids run wild while the adults enjoy tasty beverages.

I'm also ordering my groceries from Amazon Fresh who so kindly delivers within hours of me placing my order. It's not necessarily cheaper but it cuts my impulse buys down drastically so I come out ahead in the end.

We just returned from a long weekend at the beach. Washington beaches are so different than the beaches I am accustomed to. For example, I'm not sure I've ever stepped on a Washington beach without a jacket and rain boots. Something's not right about that but I can't complain, it really is relaxing and gorgeous.

We stayed at the adorable Seastar Cottage at Seabrook. So cute! And if I find a few hundred thousand dollars sitting around I think the Huckleberry Cottage would be perfect for our family.

Bedtime battles

Thankfully, we rarely have bedtime battles but here's a little Love & Logic reminder list for the times we do.....

Abolish bedtime in favor of “bedroom time.”
- While it's not within our control to make our kids fall asleep in their beds, we can control whether they stay in their rooms. Say, "You may do whatever you like as long as you stay in your room and you don't cause a problem."

If they come out of their room, shut their door.
- Some parents decide to keep putting their children back in the room. Others decide to hold the door shut. Some decide to latch the door shut until their child is willing to stay in their room.

Ensure supervision and safety.
- Make the room safe and stay right outside their door until they are calm.

Expect them to throw a huge fit.
- This is normal.

Don't talk to them through the door.
- Each word we say increases the duration of their fit.

Open the door only when they fall asleep or are willing to stay in their room.

Be as consistent as possible.
- When parents stick to this plan, they usually see major improvement in less than a week’s time.
Use these tips only with children who are at least one year of age.
- With little babies, just love them and do whatever it takes to sooth them. The first year of life is all about meeting needs and establishing trust and love.

Bathroom inspiration

I bought this fabric today as inspiration for our basement bathroom that desperately needs to be painted. The bathroom is tiny with white and black hex tile on the floor and white subway tile in the shower. I'm thinking about light blue paint above the white bead board wainscotting. This fabric will be stretched over a wood Ikea frame. Where else could I use the fabric in the bathroom? Maybe sewed to a hand towel?

Banana Muffins

Try these healthy banana muffins. My kids love them.

5 ripe bananas

1/4 cup canola oil

2/3 cup honey

1 tsp vanilla extract

2-1/3 cup whole wheat flour

3/4 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp baking soda

Preheat oven to 350 F

Lightly oil or paper-cup muffin or mini-muffin pan

Stir together fork-mashed bananas, oil, honey and vanilla

In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and baking soda

Stir the wet ingredients into the dry and blend

Spoon into muffin cups

Bake until golden brown - 20-25 minutes (or 8 minutes for mini-muffins)

In a moment of insanity, I decided to bake the cake for little boy's birthday tomorrow. A cake with fondant, no less. Damn! What have I gotten myself into? I can't bake. I've messed up slice and back cookies before.

Within the past half hour, I've googled "how to line a circle pan with parchment paper" and "which kitchenaid mixer attachment should I use for cake".

The cake is in the oven now. This post is keeping me from peeking and compromising the heat distribution of my oven. I'm on pins and needles.

Sometimes, I wish I was the mom who would plan a party at a park with grocery store cupcakes and a bag of balls and be done with it. I'm not that person. Sadly, I will never be that person.

Simple, yummy, healthy goodness

Let me tell you about my favorite delicious side dish. It's as simple as roasted veggies. You pick the veggies you like. I love red onions, red peppers, cauliflower, asparagus, mushrooms (portobello or crimini) and zucchini.

Chop them up and toss them in a bowl. Mix in a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt and dried oregano. Pour them out on a baking sheet and throw them in a 450 degree oven for 40 minutes. The veggies caramelize and the are so delicious. I originally got this recipe out of a Weight Watchers cookbook. This is a ONE point recipe. Granted I usually eat the entire batch so it probably comes out to 4 or 5 points. But it's definitely a tasty way to get your veggies!

Cold beaches and Disney

We've returned from our chilly Florida vacation and we're back to the reality of school, work, laundry, etc. While away, Mr. PaperCourt and I were able to leave the boys with my mom and escape to the Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande to celebrate ten years of marriage. TEN YEARS...that seems so long yet has gone by so quickly.

The Gasparilla Inn is the quintessential old Florida preppy hotel. No jeans are allowed in the public spaces of the hotel after 6pm during the "social" season. Seriously, this place is amazing, even in the cold weather.

We also surprised the boys with a trip to Disney. It was crowded but fun. And dare I say, as a Florida native, that I prefer Disneyland. I like the smaller park and the proximity of the hotels. The people watching at Disney is priceless. I've had my fill and won't be back for a few years.

Now we're on to the celebration of my baby's 4th birthday. Party details coming soon....

Dear Mother Nature,

We need to chat. You see, we planned a mid-winter break vacation to Florida to get out of the cold. Now the weather channel is informing me that it's going to be cold on said vacation. This vacation also includes 2 nights away from the kiddos at a fabulous hotel on the beach. Sixty degrees isn't going to allow for much beach time.

I understand that it's El Nino but you need to whip things right back to how they should be. And hurry up...we leave tomorrow!

I apologize for the lack of posts these days and the lack of substance when I do post. I'm shocked at how busy I am. Between my business, exercise, school volunteer stuff, church volunteer stuff and mothering, I'm tapped out.

I'm hoping things slow down soon but I'm beginning to think this is how it's going to be for the next 14 years.

Hey there, it's Yogi Bear

Over Thanksgiving weekend, we packed up the family (and a 20 pound bird) and headed to the Washington Coast. We have a favorite spot in the quaint town of Seabrook. It's lovely, just lovely! This was our 4th visit but our first time staying in a house that backs up to the woods. On Saturday night, our last night there, the Mr. and I put the boys to bed and readied ourselves for the last dip in the hot tub before our departure. Bathing suit, check. Wine, check. Towels, check.

We headed out for our dip and left the back door open since our oldest was still awake in his room. The jets were roaring and as I was readjusting my short self, I stood up looking over Mr. Papercourt's shoulder toward the woods and staring back was a bear. Like a GINORMOUS bear! He was on all fours but staring right at me only 5 feet away from the edge of the hot tub. I don't camp in Washington for good reason, people.

I slowly sat down staring at my husband with my eyes literally popping out of my head. Mr. Papercourt kept asking me what was wrong and all I could do was whisper, "bear, bear, bear". I considered throwing my wine glass. Luckily, the Mr. had read up on his bear scaring techniques and made him self big and scary. Off went the bear into the woods.

What if he'd gone into the house? Two tasty boys inside. The door was wide open right next to the hot tub.

We believe he weighed at least 300 lbs. Apparently, he and a buddy have been hangin' around those parts for a while. So there will be no camping trips on the calendar this summer. I can mark "get up close and personal with a bear" off my bucket list.

Last year at this time, I was up to my eyeballs in snow (a rarity in Seattle) and very humbug-ish because of the unfinished tasks the snow prevented me from completing. This year, I'm calm, enjoying the sun, help from my in-laws and smiles on my boys' faces. We're off to our church pageant in a few hours and I know my shepherd and star are ready to perform.

Sew Cute!

Excuse the pun but I whipped up the cutest Black Apple Doll yesterday for my niece's 1st birthday. I can barely sew people and this was easy (except that I didn't get the entire arm sewed on so I had to rig it a little...hopefully the little one will be gentle with dolly).

I picked out fabric at an adorable new store in my 'hood, Fabric Crush. Sarah's fabrics are to die for. She also has an etsy shop so check her out. This store makes me want to learn to "really" sew.

I found my "holiday party" dress for 2009. I really wanted the Ruffle Shimmer Dress to work from Ann Taylor Loft but the fit was way off. I decided on the Satin Dress with Neckline Applique. The fit and price were right and it'll go well with Mr. PaperCourt's crazy pants. The Ann Taylor website says "online exclusive" but I bought it in the store.

Teaching kids manners

But more specifically, teaching them about Thank You notes. Several posts ago, I mentioned my son's 6th birthday party. Sadly, it's taken us until today to get all of the thank you notes written. I felt that since he knows how to write and needs the practice, he should write the notes himself. That's quite a task considering he just started kindergarten and is exhausted at the end of the day. According to Emily Post, I should've waited a year on that (oops). To make them easier to write, I added ruled lines when designing the stationery (which can be done with any PaperCourt Press order - just let me know).

Emily Post offers the following tips to parents and kids regarding thank you notes:

Explain that receiving thank-you notes makes people feel good. And it lets them know that the gift arrived safely and is appreciated.
The sooner the better! Get those notes written as soon as possible. But don’t be embarrassed by a note sent a bit late, even a month after the gift was received. It’s far better to send a late note than no note at all.
Spend a few minutes talking about the gift and what made it special: It’s a book you loved reading. You’ve already made three projects with the art kit. The toy is so much fun to play with you haven’t wanted to do anything else. You had a great time shopping with your friends and found the perfect sweater with the gift card.
Have fun, age appropriate materials on hand to get your child interested in the project: colorful notepaper, markers, fun pens, stickers and stamps.
If you have a camera, take a picture of your child and the gift. Include the photo with the thank-you note.
Again, remember to keep it fun! If you view this as drudgery, so will the kids.

Mr. PaperCourt picked these out for his company party. People in Seattle do NOT wear critter pants (especially red corduroy with Christmas trees) so I can't wait to see everyone's reactions. It's time to start thinking about holiday parties. I hate bring this up right after Halloween but I've got start thinking about this.

I scoured BlueFly last night and learned that I have very expensive taste. If it's over $300, I totally love it. I'm hoping to find something I can also wear to an auction in March.

Here are a few that I like...

Maggy London jeweled neck chiffon trapeze dress at Nordstrom - Pretty plain jane which is what I always end up wearing.

Banana Republic assymetrical ruffle dress - I'm not sure how I feel about the one shoulder look or the huge ruffle but something is drawing me to this dress. I have a small upper body so it may look silly.

Castle Starr raspberry brushed silk beaded short dress - Only 1 left...of course...the stress! And it's way more than I want to spend...I mean WAY MORE!

What do you think? Any other suggestions of places to look?

I'll be honest. If there is a bucket of candy sitting around, I'm going to eat it. I have no self control whatsoever. I heard somewhere about donating Halloween candy to our troops so googled it found Operation Gratitude. They are taking up a collection and will send it to the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan. So start collecting...and send it on to California and they'll distribute.

What a great way to teach the kids about giving! I'm even asking the parents at preschool to participate!

Blue Angels birthday party

My oldest is turning six next week and he was very specific about wanting a "Blue Angel" birthday party after seeing them perform this summer. Mr. Almost Six was also very sure he wanted the party to be at our house. That would be our teeny tiny house. I wasn't so sure I wanted a house full of kindergarten boys but it worked out thanks to Mother Nature giving us clear skies.

I started the theme with these invitations from yours truly, PaperCourt Press. Next, we rented a yellow and blue bouncy house for the yard. I made a sign for the light post that said "Last Name Field - Air Station Magnolia" (Magnolia is our neighborhood). I made a badge for each child and I bought Blue Angel airplanes and pencils for party favors from Airshow.com. The cake was from Whole Foods. I also had a Blue Angels DVD showing on the tv in our playroom.

A good time was had by all and I'm so thankful that it didn't rain!

This summer hasn't been all fun and games. Behind the scenes, I'v been working on exciting upgrades for PaperCourt Press - a new macbook pro, a fancy pants printer and a new e-commerce website. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself! And with the boys starting school in four short weeks, I may actually have time to work. Yay!

Now I'm off again to enjoy the last few weeks of sunshine (actually, it's 67 and cloudy today but I'm sure the sun will be coming back soon).

It's been awhile. Don't say I didn't warn you. With only 4 hours a week of childcare, I've had little time to blog but of plenty of time to enjoy my boys. The days have been jam packed with activities -- swimming, beach, play dates, park -- and we haven't even touched our "things we want to do this summer list".

Also, I finally have a diagnosis on my Achilles issues. It's actually my ankle joint and ligaments. Something about the fibula and tibia not fitting tightly in my ankle joint and the ligaments and Achilles being stressed. I don't get it either. However, a little athletic tape across the front of my ankle that holds my bones together and weekly PT should fix me right up. I'll be running in no time (fingers crossed).

Ta ta for now.

Tonight, I should be carb loading, hydrating, resting and laying out my new running skirt for tomorrow's race. Unfortunately, I won't be doing any of this. I hurt my Achilles and after a painful 10 mile run last week, I came to the realization that I won't be able to run the inaugural Seattle Rock 'n Roll half marathon.

So instead of doing the preparations listed above, I think I'll relax and drink wine with Mr. PaperCourt. And I'll think good thoughts for the other 24,999 people who are running tomorrow. Go runners!!!

The $200 bud vase

I went to IKEA yesterday. That place is dangerous. Dangerous, I say. One hour of free childcare and a sale....who could ask for more?

I found the cutest bud vase on sale for $1. In my mind, I pictured 5 or 6 vases clustered together with colorful blooms at the center of my dining room table. And, honestly, if I was going through the trouble of filling the vases it would only make sense to have a party, right? See how my mind works? A $1 vase becomes a $200 party in just moments. Again, IKEA is dangerous. In the end, I didn't buy the $1 bud vase.

Preschool graduation

It was today....and I made it through the entire thing with no tears. Woo hoo for me!

Now let's talk about kids' attire for said event. Seattle is known for grunge and preschool graduation did not break any stereotypes. I know I am super anal about what my kids wear (i.e. no athletic shorts to school, etc.) but t-shirts and sweatpants for graduation? Seriously?

Sorry if this sounds snobby but I think it's important to get a little spiffed up for special occasions. I'll step down from my soap box now.

Last week was construction week at our house. We had a few projects that needed to be done and one project that I've been wanting to do for years....the kitchen backsplash. We remodeled our kitchen almost 6 years ago and either because of lack of energy or lack of funds at the end of the project, we never did anything with our backsplash.

Ready to Rock 'n Roll

I just signed up for the inaugural Seattle Rock 'n Roll marathon (or half marathon, in my case). I know I'm probably a little crazy for doing so based on the stomach episode following my last race. But I love a good time and a band every mile sounds soooo fun.

Seattle is cold almost year round so I usually run in my Lululemon boogie crop s. The RnR race is in June so I'll likely need to wear shorts (ick) or a running skirt. Can any runners out there recommend a skirt? I need it to be long...especially the under shorts.

The guest room reveal

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that my mom and I had done an ~~cheap~~ inexpensive Ikea makeover in my guestroom. I failed to take before pictures but here is the end result. It's very simple but I love the pop of the green quilt. I purchased the table a few months ago at Target for $60. The pictures over the bed are black floral fabric ($8.99/yard) stretched over wood frames ($5/each).

Back from vacation

The PaperCourt family is back. What a great, relaxing vacation! Our vacation started with a 5am flight Wednesday morning. As painful as it was, it was awesome to be checked into our hotel at 9am with a full sunny day ahead of us.

The Hyatt Gainey Ranch is a perfect family destination. They had no less than five kid activities planned per day....bracelet making, Native American dancing, Birds of Prey show, bumper boat races in the pool...the list goes on. And they have a Camp Hyatt for "drop-off" opportunities! It was like a real vacation.Birds of prey show

We had two great meals in Scottsdale - Frank & Lupe's and Cowboy Ciao. Check them out if you're in the area.

Easter planning

Mr. PaperCourt and I just decided that we are going to host Easter dinner this year. I'm sending out this electronic invitation...

We're planning to feed the kids first then hire a sitter to entertain the kids (6 boys) in our playroom. Last year, I made an amazing cake (pictured below) with a nest made of chocolate on top and I'm hoping to recreate that masterpiece.

My mom is in town and today we went to Ikea. That place rocks! We're redoing our guestroom today for under $150. I can't wait to share the pictures!

In other news, my stomach is feeling better and I froze my arse off at my son's first t-ball practice. I wore ballet flats - it was 40 degrees and muddy. I'm not so smart sometimes. And the most exciting news of all, we decided to take a leap and commit to the independent private school for my son.

Two hours and six minutes of fun!

I did it! I finished the Mercer Island Half Marathon on Sunday with my fastest time ever! YIPPEE! My time was 2:06....11 minutes faster than the Seattle half marathon last November and 19 minutes faster than the Seattle half when I was 25. Am I getting faster with age?

Unfortunately, my body took a major beating. Two hours after the race, I was doubled over with stomach pain. After two doctors visits yesterday, I found out I have some inflammation in my intestines. It hurts and involves 3 weeks of medication. And, sadly, I don't think I'll be signing up for the inaugural Seattle Rock 'n Roll half marathon in June. The thought makes me want to cry...I seriously LOVE, LOVE running 13.1 miles.

All of the local independent private schools sent out their "acceptance" letters yesterday which means they are due to arrive in my mailbox any minute. This is for kindergarten, my friends. You would not believe what it takes to get into kindergarten. One school takes a maximum of 300 applications......for 32 spots. We're talking tours, five page applications, intelligence tests, parent interviews, student visits....it was practically a full time job.

A couple of weeks ago we were accepted to the local Catholic school. We're not Catholic but it's a good school and the price is right. We'd pretty much decided that was the route we were going to take......until today.

This morning we got an email from one of the schools and my son was accepted. Damn, damn. Now we have to make a decision. It would've been a lot easier if we'd been rejected.

Sick day

The crud has invaded the PaperCourt household. I have one feverish boy and one coughing boy. Not fun! We're on day two so hopefully they will be better for their St. Patrick's Day celebrations at school tomorrow.

To pass the time on this icky day, we made Irish Brown Bread from Family Fun magazine. It uses everyday ingredients (and no yeast...I suck at using yeast). I didn't have buttermilk on hand so I used this trick to make my own. It worked like a charm. I may never buy buttermilk again.

The boys watched Madagascar 2 and I cleaned out their drawers. What a great feeling! I plan to list a few shirts (mini boden and crew cuts) on ebay in the next few days.

And about that "jeans" post. I'm having a hard time writing about something so superficial during these hard times. After reading Ashley's post about losing her house, I've decided to focus on other things right now.

Energy....or lack there of

Have you ever calculated your Walk Score? Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. I am a city dweller and I feel very lucky to have access to my daily needs by foot. Someone today was telling me how they are moving to 40 acres a few counties north of Seattle. I honestly can't imagine. I really can't even imagine living in the suburbs. Within a half mile of my house, I have access to a grocery store, a library, ten restaurants, four coffee shops, a gas station, a drug store, the post office, four preschools, 2 schools (one public and one private) and numerous other shops (books store, wine bar, boutiques, etc). My 'hood scored an 89 out of 100.
